A Free Ride in Charlotte

Cruise Carts has been giving Charlotte free rides since April 2015. These rides are free to Charlotteans because an advertiser has paid to sponsor the cart and spread some brand awareness along with good energy to the city.

If you’ve been a rider, you know that riding in a Cruise Cart is definitely an experience. Zooming around Uptown or South End in an up-fitted golf cart is always a fun time. But have you ever thought what the experience is like for a driver? We asked a few of ours to give you some insight.

What is the best thing about being a Cruise Carts Driver?

“The best thing about being a cruise cart driver is being able to interact with all types of people and learning the city.” – Katie Sohn
“The best thing about being a driver is having the opportunity to talk to so many different people every day. Sparking conversations about their lives, your lives and just natural and positive conversations. It’s fun to see how people genuinely take interest in what you offer when you show interest in them.” – Paulina Quesada

“I enjoy learning my way around Charlotte and meeting people.” – Moose Cooper

Describe a typical interaction with a Cruise Carts Rider?

“A typical interaction with a rider starts with a greeting and just asking about their days. Then, I ask them if they had ever ridden with Cruise Carts, if they say “No” I proceed to tell them a little bit about what we do, who we are and what we believe in as a company. Almost EVERY rider wants to know how the rides are free and that’s when I explain our system and that thanks to the advertiser they are getting a free ride. This leads me into a natural conversation about the advertiser and not a rehearsed sales pitch. After I explain why the ride is free, the riders reactions are priceless and so rewarding as a driver. People automatically get in a better mood, they want to talk to you and lots of times I’ve heard that the ride “makes their day.” – Paulina Quesada

What have you learned about Charlotte by being a Cruise Carts driver?

“I’m learning there really is a lot going on in Charlotte and we also have a lot of tourists. Most of the rides I give are for people that aren’t from here and really don’t know about Cruise Carts, so it’s fun to educate them.” – Katie Sohn

“The major thing I’ve learned about Charlotte from being a Cruise Cart driver is how to move around efficiently. I love that now I know my city better and I can move around without getting lost. I have also learned how the city behaves for big events and different conventions. I have become a bigger part of Charlotte by being involved with Cruise Carts. I have even developed relationships with some Charlotte officials that have openly helped me. I know more facts about the city, from what I’ve researched, but also from talking to people while driving. They learn from me, but most importantly I learn from all of them.” – Paulina Quesada

As you can see, being a Cruise Carts driver can open a lot of doors to meeting new people and exploring this beautiful city or ours. And while the ride is free, the driver still operates on tips – just like a server or a bartender. Next time you’re riding in a Cruise Cart, if your driver is awesome, let them know with a tip!

South End Hops Fest Cruises the Streets

The 3rd Annual Greystar South End Hops Festival returned on May 14, 2016 to historic South End Charlotte, NC. This community beer festival brought out over 1,400 people to enjoy a day of craft beer from over 34 North Carolina breweries.

Cruise Carts partnered with festival organizer, Third Rock Events, on a month long promotion leading up to the event. Our cart was wrapped in South End Hops Fest creative and hit the streets of Uptown, South End, NoDa and Plaza Midwood. This was a great way to bring attention to the festival and the drivers were able to educate the riders on the event and push people to purchase tickets.

During the actual day-of-event, our Cruise Cart acted as a shuttle service for guests and passers-by. Having this free ride service definitely elevated the guest experience.

The festival was presented by RPMS Real Estate  and supported in large by Charlotte Marriott Center City and Historic South End.

Cruise Carts Offers Rides To Tailgaters

The mission of Cruise Carts has always been to make Charlotte happier with each free ride and this Carolina Panthers football season, we’ve done just that for one couple with PSLs. Our friends Dennis and Laura reached out and asked if we’d be able to help them get to the Bank of America Stadium on Panthers game days.

Dennis is partially disabled due to his cancer and had to have a knee replacement by OrthoCarolina, so getting to the games has become a challenge. Of course, we jumped right in and made sure that these lifelong Panther fans (21 seasons and going strong) were able to get from their tailgate lot to the stadium on time to see Cam Newton and that famous Panthers defense.

We pick Dennis up in the cart (which just happens to be wrapped by OrthoCarolina) every Sunday there is a home game. Over the course of the season we’ve become friends with these awesome folks and look forward to bringing Dennis & Laura (along with his wheelchair) to the stadium. While this is not a service that Cruise Carts typically provides, we simply had to help Dennis and be there for a great neighbor.

Tinselbox And Cruise Carts

This holiday season, Cruise Carts will be bringing random acts of kindness to Uptown shoppers courtesy of Charlotte Center City Partners. There is a pop up holiday market coming called Tinselbox and Cruise Carts will be driving around giving people a free ride to and from the pop up shop. Shopping in Uptown Charlotte is something that is new and growing through pop up shops like Tinselbox. Bringing retail options to the heart of the business district in Charlotte, NC is showing great progress for our growing city and we are happy to help make it accessible.

OrthoCarolina 10k Classic

OrthoCarolina has been a big supporter of Cruise Carts and the positive impact we are having on the Charlotte community. This weekend we were able to assist with the OrthoCarolina 10K Classic, a road race that goes through the heart of Charlotte. Our Cruise Carts were used to shuttle runners to the event, were on hand to transport medical staff to designated stations and acted as an OrthoCarolina brand presence.

Rock and Run / Walk 5k

Cruise Carts are a perfect transportation solution for local events, road races and group gatherings. Our eco-friendly golf carts are able to shuttle guests from the parking lot to the entrance of the event. We were honored to be on site for the Rock and Run / Walk 5K at the NC Music Factory. Hundreds of runners participated in this community run and Cruise Carts were able to assist with getting people from the parking lot behind Mattie’s Diner to the race location. It’s always fun to get involved with community-driven activities around our Queen City.

Look Out For A Cruise Cart

Charlotte’s booming Uptown area offers a variety of after work activities. Here are some options: Catch dinner and a movie at the EpiCentre on the corner of Trade St & College St; stop by a Charlotte Knights game and then walk through Romare Bearden Park; grab a cocktail by Charlotte’s best bartender Bob Peters at the Punch Room in the Ritz Carlton Hotel. No matter where the night takes you, look out for a Cruise Cart to get you to and from your destination for free.

Meet The Cruise Carts Team

Meet the Cruise Carts Team! We are honored to work with such fun, smart and Charlotte-savvy folks. These are the faces that you will see when you are waving down your free ride in Uptown! Our drivers are brand ambassadors for our advertisers. They will be able to tell you all about the brand that has wrapped the cart and drive you to the hottest restaurant in the Queen City.

Cruise Over To Food Truck Friday

This warm weather has Charlotte yearning for that sweet summertime! Cruise Carts will be out at Food Truck Friday located in historic Southend Charlotte tonight and every Friday. This community food truck rally is a staple on Friday nights. Bring your picnic blanket and some friends, grab a beer at Common Market and relax under the Queen City sunset. You’re sure to enjoy one of the many tasty food offerings from the locals. Pro Tip: Order the Pig Mac from Papi Queso and ask for their Kettle Cooked Chips.
